OSWEGO, NY – An afternoon rain shower didn’t dampen the egg-citement for hundreds of children Saturday morning.

Close to 600 children “hunted” for colorful plastic Easter eggs scattered around Oswego’s Breitbeck Park – mostly in plain sight.

This year’s event was conducted by the Kiwanis Club.

The youngest children raced out into the egg laden park at 10 a.m. By 10:05 a.m., the eggs were procured and the kids headed back to their parents to display their goodies.

Ages 6 – 8 sprinted after the eggs at 11 a.m. Noon was the starting time for the 9 – 11 year olds.

When their time period was over, the youngsters received a goody bag.

The also got a raffle ticket.

Winners of the bikes were Mason Skye and Sophie Henson.

“Everyone had a great time. We’ve received lots of nice comments on the Facebook page,” said volunteer Jennifer Losurdo. “They liked the different times for different ages. I estimate about 550 kids for real. The parents were awesome this year. Thanks to Performance Fitness for keeping everybody in line!”

“This was fun!” exclaimed one of the youngsters in the 6-8 year old group. He found so many eggs that added that he gave his sister some.

  1. Who says Oswego doesn’t have activities for all age groups! I heard on the news that many urban areas didn’t have Easter Egg hunts anymore because of misbehaving ‘parents!’ It’s very nice to know that Oswego parents can keep their own wishes at bay for the benefit of the kids. My daughter had a wonderful time twenty years ago during her Easter Egg hunts, and I am SO GLAD this is back for this generation of kids.

THANKS to all the agencies that helped to bring this exciting event to fruition!!!

  2. It was a toss up to have this again because of last year’s mishap with the parents. But a group of us decided to try it again. If it weren’t for the help of Performance Fitness and local businesses donating items for raffles and the Kiwanis Club as a backer, this would not have went on.
Everyone had a great time and parent’s were very well behaved, so we will do this again next year!
