OSWEGO, NY – The Oswego Lady Bucs ice hockey team started the 2010 portion of the season with a 4-1 victory over visiting Saranac Lake on Saturday afternoon at Fort Ontario.
Oswego advanced its league record to 4-0 and moved to 7-1 overall.
The Bucs started out well as Devyn Hutcheson scored her first of two goals early in the first period as Taylar Cianfarano got the puck onto HutchesonÃ¢â‚¬â„¢s stick.
However, the visitors from the North Country put in the equalizer with just over five minutes to go in the opening period.
Oswego then took the lead for good as Kaitlin Friel scored on a rebound of a Sarah Mancuso shot from the point.
Before the game ended Hutcheson had scored again and Cianfarano added yet another to her lofty point total with her twenty-third goal of the campaign.
Assists were picked up by Caty Darling and Tessa Opet.
OswegoÃ¢â‚¬â„¢s offense was moving quite well as they put 28 shots on net with the SL goalie Ashley Pittman coming away with 24 saves.
The Oswego Lady Bucs remained undefeated in league play by beating visiting Saranac Lake by a score of 4-1. The Bucs moved to 4-0 in league play and 7-1 overall.
Oswego goalie Madisyn Whalen managed 22 saves as she kept her team in contention.
Saranac Lake had numerous quality chances to put the puck in the net, but Whalen stopped them time and time again.
OHS Cagers Fall To Massena
The first half proved to be a tight battle in the non-league confrontation between Oswego and visiting Massena on Dec. 30.
Massena had a 12-7 lead in the first quarter and in the second Oswego scored 20 points, but still trailed 31-27 at the intermission.
Oswego played well in the third and outscored the opposition 15-11 as the game was tied 42-42 with eight minutes to go.
In the final quarter the visitors outscored the Bucs 18-8 to leave Oswego with a 10-point win.
Joe Brown, Mac Porter and Damien Williams all scored 10 points. Troy Norton scored nine, Jake Metcalf six, Anthony Samson three and Eddie Bornheimer two points.
Oswego Jayvee Boys Win Fourth Straight
The Oswego jayvee boysÃ¢â‚¬â„¢ basketball team won its fourth consecutive game with a 59- 40 victory over visiting Massena.
Once again, the Bucs started slowly, falling behind 11-6 after one quarter.Ã‚Â A strong 23-point second quarter, paced by Josh GillardÃ¢â‚¬â„¢s four three-pointers sent the Bucs into the lead at halftime, 29 – 24.
Oswego continued to play well in the second half, outscoring Massena 30-16 over the final two quarters.
The team again played very good defense, and did a very good job rebounding, limiting Massena to one shot on most possessions.
Sophomore captains Mike Thompson and Ryan Patrick led the strong Buc defense with outstanding hustle and leadership.
Patrick also paced the team in scoring with 16 points.Ã‚Â Josh Gillard added 14, Connor Riley 13, Mike Thompson six, Eric Wallace five, Kevin Carpentier three, and Nate Miller and Brennon Richardson added one point apiece.
The JV Bucs now stand at 4-2. The next game is Tuesday, Jan. 5, at Cicero- North Syracuse.
