OSWEGO, NY – The New York State Department of Transportation is advising motorists of an ongoing project in Oswego County that will soon affect traffic using New York State Route 481 near the Public Safety Building in the city of Oswego.
The goal of this project is to improve safety at the Route 481 intersections with Churchill Road and Oswego County Route 57.
Work currently taking place involves dead-ending the western approach of Churchill Road to Route 481 and re-aligning the angled eastern approach into a conventional T-shaped intersection.
Motorists on the now-closed western approach will be directed to use County Route 57 to Route 481.
In the future, the County Route 57 intersection will be reconfigured slightly north to improve sight distance and Route 481 will be reconstructed to accept the newly improved intersections.
Separate turn lanes will be provided from southbound Route 481 to Churchill Road and to County Route 57, and from northbound Route 481 to County Route 57.
Traffic will be maintained on-site during construction with flaggers and/or daily lane closures.
The contractor on this project is Rifenburg Construction, based in Troy.
The cost of this project is $2.58 million.
Work is expected to be completed late this fall.
A public information meeting for this project was held in June, 2012.
