James E. Knight, 87

FULTON, NY – James E. Knight, 87, of Fulton passed away Friday, February 3, 2012, at St. Luke Health Services in Oswego.

Born in Fulton, to the late James F. Knight and Emma M. (Guile) Knight, Jim attended Fulton High School as well as University College in Syracuse.

He was inducted into the U.S. Army in 1941 and served as a Platoon Special Sergeant until his discharge in 1945.

Serving during World War II, he was a highly decorated veteran, receiving the bronze service award from the U.S. Army for the 1st Wave Assault on Omaha Beach, Normandy in 1944.

Jim served with honor and distinction in the Famous 299th Combat Engineers.

Upon his military discharge, Jim established the James E. Knight Insurance Agency in Fulton, NY, in 1950.

He owned and managed the agency’s operations until 1995.

He was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church and served as an officer of the VFW and Knights of Columbus.

Jim was predeceased by his wife of 45 years, the former Angie M. (Vescio) Knight, who passed away in 1991; daughter-in-law, Reyne LeBlanc Knight; sister-in-law Dorothy Knight and brothers-in-law, Vincent, Andrew and Rosario Vescio.

He will be forever loved by his children, J. Daniel Knight of Fulton, Margaret Ann (Fred) Hutchins of Auburn, Luann  Constanza of Oswego and Mary Ann Knight (Timothy) Colbert of Ithaca; siblings, Francis Knight, Donald (Elaine) Knight and Mark (Rosalind) Knight; grandchildren, Peter (Rebecca) Knight, Scott (Billie Joe LeVea) Knight, Sara (Al) Smith, Susan (Al) Daniels, Marla Hutchins, Laura (Trevor) Jackson, Kathleen (Eric) Dempsey, Melissa Constanza, Colin Colbert and Lindsay Colbert;  14 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and cousins.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, corner of Rochester and South Third streets, Fulton.

Calling hours will be on Monday, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Foster Funeral Home, 910 Fay St., Fulton.
