Jane Turner Terpening, age 88 of Westport, passed away on November 10, 2010 at the Honey Hill Rehabilitation Center in Norwalk.
Mrs. Terpening was born on May 15, 1922, the daughter of William and Grace Turner. Jane graduated from Phoenix High School and Oswego State Teacher’s College. She taught for over ten years beginning in a one room schoolhouse in Booneville, NY then to a class of thirty ninth graders in Rochester, NY. She was instrumental in introducing a drug program in Westport during the 1970’s called Project Renaissance, an offshoot of Daytop Village. She served for five years on their board of directors. Jane was an active member of the Unitarian Church in Westport and managed the book cart for many years.
She is survived by her husband, Marshall of Westport; sons, John of San Geronimo, CA and Lawrence of Stratford; brother, Stuart of Phoenix, NY; and sister, Winnie of Taneytown, MD. Contributions may be made in her name to the organization of your choice.
A memorial service will be conducted at a later date at the Unitarian Church in Westport.
