OSWEGO, NY – Exactly 50 years to the day of Jim Shampine’s first career Oswego Speedway victory, his all-new Oswego Speedway Hall of Fame Legend Series ‘Green Machine’ T-shirts will go on sale as a part of the $10,000 to win Mr. Novelis Supermodified at the ‘Steel Palace’ this Saturday.
The second release in the Legend Series line, following the May release of the ‘Old Grey Fox’ Nolan Swift design, will be on sale for $20 in the Speedway’s front grandstand novelty only on July 23.
A date fond too many followers of Oswego Speedway, July 23, 1966 marked the first time Shampine drove the 8-Ball to the Speedway’s hallowed victory lane.
Shampine defeated Swift and Ohio’s Bob Smith on that night in ’66, jump starting an iconic career that would see 86 more Supermodified victories over the course of 16 years prior to his untimely passing during Classic Weekend of 1982.
Following Saturday night remaining shirts will be available for purchase by calling (315) 342-0646, or in the Speedway’s main novelty stand in the weekend’s leading up to Budweiser International Classic Weekend.
The third and final Oswego Speedway Hall of Fame Legend Series T-shirt of 2016 will debut this Classic Weekend.
For those interested in being in line as soon as the ‘Green Machine’ shirts go on sale in the main novelty stand, the front grandstands will open at 4:30 p.m. this Saturday.
Pit gates will open at 3:15 p.m. with the night’s first heat race going green at 6:30 p.m.
Kids 16 and under will be admitted free with paid adult.
