OSWEGO, NY – John W. North, 85, a resident of Oswego, passed away Tuesday April 24, 2012, at Oswego Hospital.
Born in Oswego, he was the son of the late William and Lillian (Anderson) North.
John was a U.S. Army veteran, serving from 1944-1947.
He became a police officer in 1955 for the Oswego Police Department. He retired as police lieutenant in 1989.
He was a past president of the Longshoreman Union, past commander of the American Legion, a member of the Oswego Elks and VFW, and a member of the Fraternal Order Of The Police.
Surviving are his daughter, Roberta “Bobbie” (David) Gill of Oswego; two brothers, Francis North of Oswego and Robert North of Niagara Falls; and two grandchildren, Corey Gill of Rochester and Casey Gill of Oswego.
He was predeceased by a brother, William North; and two sisters, Ethel Walker and Helen Raby.
Funeral services will be held privately.
Burial will be in St. Peter’s Cemetery.
