OSWEGO, NY – Joseph A. Syrell, 84, and a resident of 15 Merrick St., Oswego, passed away Friday morning June 18, 2010, at his home surrounded by his family.
Mr. Syrell was born in Oswego and was the son of the late Harry and Florence Hibbert Syrell.
He was the husband of Laura H. Murray Syrell.
Mr. Syrell served in the US Navy during World War II.
He had been employed as a welder and foreman with Northern Steel for 42 years until his retirement.
He had previously been employed as a welder with Oswego Sheet Metal.
Mr. Syrell was a communicant of St. Peterâ€™s Church and enjoyed fishing, hunting, traveling and most importantly spending time with his family.
In addition to his wife he is survived by two daughters, Deborah (Lucian â€œJoeâ€)Â Fellows of Greenville, Tenn. and Donna Crouse of Scriba; four sons, Gary J. (Brenda) Syrell of Scriba, David P. Syrell of Scriba, Bryan M. Syrell of Oswego Town and Daniel C. Syrell of Scriba; one sister, Doris I. Aleo of Webster; nine grandchildren, Eric Syrell, Greg Crouse, Bryan Syrell Jr., Daniel Syrell Jr., James Bristol, Katrina Stevenson, Kimberly Campbell, Jennifer Clark and Brooke Syrell; 11 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a son, Peter J. Syrell; five brothers, Harry Syrell, John Syrell, Fred Syrell, Leo Syrell and Donald Syrell; and one sister, Mary Keating.
Funeral services will be Tuesday 9:30 a.m. from the Dain-Cullinan Funeral Home and at 10 a.m. in St. Peterâ€™s Church.
Burial will be in St. Peterâ€™s Cemetery.
Calling hours will be Monday 3-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
