OSWEGO, NY – Joseph F. Dehm, 85, of Oswego, passed away Monday August 19, 2013, at University Hospital, Syracuse, surrounded by his family.
Joe was born March 13, 1928 in Oswego to Paul J. Dehm and Edna (Henderson).
He attended St. Mary’s School and graduated from Oswego High School.
He worked for P&C Food Market as the meat manager retiring after 40 years in 1990. He also worked for the city of Oswego as the sealer of weights and measures for a brief time.
Joe was elected to the Oswego Board of Education in 1964 and was re-elected several times serving until the 1990s.
He also served 18 years of the Oswego County BOCES Board of Education. He was a life member of the Oswego B.P.O.E. and a member of the Quattrini Dehm Post.
Joe was preceded in death by his wife of more than 50 years, Mary (O’Gorman), in 2003; also two brothers, Tommy and David; and three sisters, Fran (Ennis), Sally (Saia) and Irene (Dehm).
He is survived by a daughter, Linda (Don Hilfiger) Dehm of Oswego; a son, Tom (Judy Izzo) Dehm of Oswego; two grandchildren, Christopher Perry and Melissa Perry (Jim Burnett); a great-granddaughter, Emma Burnett; three sisters and his loving, caring brother, Paul and his wife, Jeannette; several nieces and nephews.
His sense of humor and his ability to make people laugh will be missed by all who knew him.
Funeral services will be held at noon Friday at St. Mary’s Church.
Burial will be in Peck’s Cemetery, Scriba.
Calling hours will be held 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Nelson Funeral Home, 11 W. Albany St., Oswego.
