OSWEGO, NY – Joseph J. Hegadorn passed away Wednesday October 8, 2014, at Oswego Hospital, surrounded by family.
He was the son of Alton Orville and Angeline Chetney Hegadorn, both deceased.
Joe was predeceased by a daughter, Diane Louise Hegadorn; and his wife, Grace Myers Hegadorn; as well as one brother, George Chantigny; and sisters, Cecile, Margaret and Catherine Chantigny.
Joe is survived by one daughter, Barbara (Wayne) Thomas of North Creek, NY.
He has three grandchildren, Sean (Nathalie) Thomas of Vacaville, Calif., Heather (Jon) Gebers of Cazenovia, NY, and Eric (Jill) Thomas of Fairbanks, Alaska. He also has eight great-grandchildren, Anthony, Hannah, Joseph and Seth Thomas of Vacaville, Calif., Elijah and Jon Sebastian Gebers of Cazenovia, NY, and Griffith and Caius Thomas of Fairbanks, Alaska.
Joe was a World War II veteran and upon discharge from the U.S. Army, began work as a welder with Fitzgibbons Boiler Works in Oswego.
When the plant closed, he started work with Northern Steel Company as an arc welder from which he retired November 1986.
He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2320 in Oswego as well as the American Legion Post 268 in Oswego.
Funeral services will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the Dain-Cullinan Funeral Home.
Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery.
Calling hours will be held Monday 4-7 p.m. at funeral home.
