OSWEGO COUNTY – Oswego Expeditions is sponsoring a series of heritage bus tours this summer and fall to celebrate Oswego County’s 200th anniversary. Tours are scheduled for one Saturday a month in communities across Oswego County between July and October.
All trips begin at 10 a.m. and return by 4 p.m. at a choice of pick-up stations. Each tour will be narrated by a local history expert and includes motor coach transportation, lunch and museum admission.
“These tours are designed to celebrate our county’s bicentennial and give our residents a chance to learn more about the history in our own back yards,” said Jennifer Mays, owner of Oswego Expeditions.
On Saturday, July 16, Oswego Expeditions will travel to historic sites and museums in Fulton, Hannibal and Phoenix. Visitors will learn about the history of Hannibal and visit Fulton’s Pratt House Museum, the Schroeppel Historical Society Museum, and the Phoenix Bridge House on the Oswego River Canal. Admission is $45 for adults and $35 for seniors and students. Lunch is included.
On Saturday, Aug. 27, travelers will visit historic sites in Pulaski and Mexico, including the Salmon River (Selkirk) Lighthouse and Marina, Pulaski Historical Society and Carriage House Museum, Starr Clark Tin Shop and Underground Railroad Museum, and Casey’s Cottage at Mexico Point Park.
September’s tour on Saturday, Sept. 17 will be led by Richland Town Historian Shawn Doyle and features the Crank It Up! Antique Tractor and Engine Show at the Oswego County Fairgrounds, lunch at the Half-Shire Historical Society, another museum visit, and the impressive 110-foot waterfall at the Salmon River Falls Unique Area.
Details on the Saturday, Oct. 15 tour along the north shore of Oneida Lake will be announced.
