OSWEGO – On September 6, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., the annual Kites Over Fort Ontario event will be held on the spacious grounds of Fort Ontario State Historic Site.
In addition, antique and classic cars, trucks, military, and other vehicles are invited to set up in the fort’s shady grove.
Admission to the kites and cars event is free and regular admission will be charged for anyone wishing to go inside and tour the old stone fort.
Kite experts from around the United States and Canada, including members of New York Kite Enthusiasts (NYKE) and noted kite historian Tom Shanken will help kite fliers of all ages and skill levels.
People are invited to bring their own kites and there will be additional kites available for sale.
Weather permitting, kites up to 450 square feet with 150 foot tails will soar above the fort and be visible from miles around.
Featured activities will be the Rokkaku Kite Battle, the Running of the Bols, and every kid’s favorite, The Candy Drop.
Participants and observers are encouraged to bring a picnic basket while enjoying some good old-fashioned outdoor fun.
Tickets for the annual Fort Ontario Ghost Tour, scheduled for October 17 and 18, will be sold during the Kites and Cars event and at Pumpkinfest.
