Kuracina Goal Gives Oswego State Men’s Soccer Second Conference Win Over Buffalo State

OSWEGO, N.Y. – Jonathan Kuracina’s second goal of the season put the Oswego State men’s soccer team ahead for good on Friday afternoon at Laker Field as it defeated Buffalo State 2-1. With the win, the Lakers move to 4-6-1 on the season and 2-2-0 in conference play. The Bengals drop to 2-8-0 and 0-4-0 in the SUNYAC.

The Lakers struck first when, just over a minute after a Brendan Beisner chance hit the post, Ryan Tibbets found Sean Murphy in the 24th minute. The goal was Murphy’s first of the season and gave the Lakers a 1-0 edge.

Buffalo State answered back in the 40th minute when Andrew Dugan tallied his third marker of the season on an assist from Thomas Winski. The score remained tied going into the half.

Kuracina came into the contest 12 minutes into the half and exactly a minute later he found the back of the net. Captain Tony Greene assisted on the goal which would prove to be the game winner.

In the second half, Oswego State outshot its opponent 5-2 and only committed two fouls compared to 10 for the Bengals. The Laker defense stepped up to the challenge too, not allowing a shot on goal.

Oswego State goalkeeper Matt Wopperer finished the game with three saves, all in the first half. Buffalo State’s Brian Dudek registered both of his saves in the second half.

The Lakers look to surpass the .500 mark in the SUNYAC when they face Fredonia at Laker Field on Saturday at 1 p.m. for Senior Day.
