William Smith College junior Kristen Kush (G. Ray Bodley/Fulton, N.Y.) was named to the Liberty League Women’s Basketball Team of the Week for the 10th time this season by the conference office. The forward averaged team-highs of 19.0 points and 8.0 rebounds in a 1-1 weekend on the road.
Kush matched her career-high with 27 points in a 71-55 upset of conference front runner Union on Friday. She was 10-of-13 from the floor against the Dutchwomen and grabbed six rebounds. The following day at Skidmore, she produced her fifth double-double of the season on 11 points and a game-high 10 rebounds.
A starter in all 20 games this season, Kush is averaging 18.7 points, 7.7 rebounds, 1.5 steals, and 1.0 assists. She is shooting 47.9 percent from the floor and 69.2 percent from the free throw line. Kush is second in the Liberty League in scoring, second in field goal percentage, and third in rebounding.
Kush has scored 10 or more points in 29 consecutive games.
William Smith is 10-10 overall and tied with Rensselaer and Vassar for fourth place in the conference standings at 5-4. The league’s top four teams make the conference championship tournament.
The Herons will be back in action on Tuesday, Feb. 8, when the Herons visit Hamilton (7-10, 5-4). Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
