For the eighth time in nine weeks, William Smith College junior forward Kristen Kush (G. Ray Bodley/Fulton, N.Y.) was named to the Liberty League Women’s Basketball Team of the Week. She led William Smith to road victories over Vassar and Rensselaer, averaging 25.5 points and 7.0 rebounds.
On Friday, Kush recorded 25 points, eight rebounds, and three steals as the Herons gave the Brewers their first league loss 66-57. The following afternoon, Kush produced a game-high 26 points and collected six caroms as William Smith knocked RPI out of first place 67-60. For the week, she shot 54.8 percent from the floor and 83.3 percent from the free throw line.
Kush has scored 20 or more points in six of the Herons’ last eight games and leads the team with 18.9 ppg. She’s also producing 7.2 rpg, 1.2 spg, and 1.1 apg. Kush is shooting 50 percent from the floor and 69.2 percent from the free throw line. She’s second in the Liberty League in scoring and field goal percentage and ranks eighth in rebounding.
William Smith is 8-8 overall, 3-2 in conference play. The Herons lead the league in assists (16.06/g), steals (12.81), and turnover margin (+4.94). William Smith will be back in action on Friday, Jan. 28, when St. Lawrence (11-3, 2-2) visits Bristol Gym. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. WHWS-FM (105.7) will broadcast the game live.
