William Smith College junior forward Kristen Kush (G. Ray Bodley/Fulton, N.Y.) was named to the Liberty League Women Basketball Team of the Week by the conference office today. It’s the sixth consecutive week she’s been named to the team and the seventh time out of a possible eight.
Kush led William Smith in scoring and rebounding last week, averaging 21.7 points, 9.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 1.7 steals. On Monday, she scored a game-high 21 points, grabbed seven boards, dished out two assists, and made two steals in a 74-52 win over Hamilton. On Friday, Kush logged team-highs of 26 points, nine rebounds, and three steals in an overtime loss to Skidmore. She closed out the week with a team-high 18 points, a game-high 11 rebounds, and three assists in an OT loss to Union. For the week, Kush shot 51.9 percent from the floor and 75 percent from the free throw line.
A starter in all 14 games, Kush is averaging 17.9 points, 7.2 rebounds, 1.1 assists, and 1.1 steals. She’s shooting a team-leading 49.1 percent from the floor. Kush ranks second in the conference in scoring, third in field goal percentage, and seventh in rebounding.
William Smith (6-8, 1-2) will be back in action on Friday, Jan. 21, when the Herons visit league rival Vassar (7-5, 2-0). Tipoff in Poughkeepsie is scheduled for 6 p.m. Live Stats for the contest will be available via the Brewers’ website.
