With the players, staff, and crowd dressed in pink the Lady Bucs Volleyball team not only celebrated a four set win over Central Square (3-1), but also brought awareness and support to breast cancer awareness month.Ãƒâ€šÃ‚Â All proceeds from last nightÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â€šÂ¬Ã¢â€žÂ¢s match will be given to the American Cancer Society.
The Lady Bucs and Lady Red Hawks battled back and forth in set one with Oswego pulling out the 25-20 win. Jessica Benjamin (6 kills) lead the attack set by Katie Flanagan (14 assists) followed by Vanessa Sheffield (5 kills) and Lauren Hunt (3 kills).
In the second set Oswego took an early lead with timely serving by Kelsey Ross and Morgan Laver keeping Central Square off balance and used a strong blocking set to stymie the Red Hawk attack winning 25-18.Ãƒâ€šÃ‚Â Oswego was lead by Cari Reed (2 blks., 2 kills), Sheffield (3 blks., 2 kills), and Flanagan (9 assists).
Oswego hoping to sweep, fell to a more aggressive Red Hawk serving attack forcing several passing errors and lost the third set 25-11.
In the fourth set Oswego fell behind early but responded and came back to win 25-23.Ãƒâ€šÃ‚Â Benjamin (4 kills, 1 pt.blk.), Hunt (2 kills), Sheffield (2 kills, 2 blks.), and Cari Reed (2 kills, 1 pt.blk.) again lead the attack.Ãƒâ€šÃ‚Â Flanagan added 11 assists and Mary Montagnola continues to be steady on defense with 12.
The Central Square team was lead by Senior Captains Jules Shelton (4 aces, 3 kills, 18 assists) and Jenna Davies (11 kills, 6 pt.blks.)
Oswego returns to league action tonight versus Fowler with JVs at 5 pm.
