OSWEGO – The 23rd annual Lady Buccaneer Softball Mini Camp for girls ages 9-16 will be held June 24, 25 and 26 at the Oswego High School fields.
The camp has a rain date of June 27.
The cost is $45 per player.
Enrollment is limited to the first 50 players.
There is a sibling discount available, where additional players from the same family can enroll for $35 each.
All players will receive a commemorative Oswego softball T-shirt as well as a player’s report card of what to work on for the upcoming season.
Daily instruction will be as follows: Ages 9-12, 9 a.m. until noon; ages 13-16, 1-4 p.m.
Activities will include pitching, throwing, position play, baserunning, team defense, hitting, bunting, sliding, and mini-games.
Former OHS varsity softball coach Mike McCrobie will head the group of instructors.
He guided the Lady Buccaneers to three Section III championships, six league titles, and six times was named Onondaga High School League/Central New York Counties League Coach of the Year.
He was New York State Coach of the Year in 1995.
The entire OHS softball staff will be providing instruction.
Lady Buccaneers varsity coach Ron Ahart, JV coach and former Cortland State All-American Lyndsey Rowell, and middle school coach Brad Shannon will all lead sessions.
The rest of the staff will be comprised of current and former Oswego High School players including 2012 National Fastpitch Coaches’ Association Division III All-American Abby Martin (Cortland State) and 2011 CNYCL Player of the Year, Devynn Wilder (Cortland State).
In the past, returning alumnus and National Fastpitch Coaches’ Association Regional High School All-America nominee Katie Frawley (Illinois Wesleyan) staffed the camp.
Other returning Lady Bucs on the coaching staff in previous years have gone on to play college softball and/or coach at various levels from youth to college.
In past camps, returning alumni have included Erika Lazzaro (Brockport State), Ali Canale and Lexi Deming (Cortland State), Mollie Schneible (St. John Fisher), Samantha Todd (Cazenovia College), Nicole Natoli (Nazareth College), Jenna Wyman (Barry University), Susan Sugar (Le Moyne College), Meg Runeari (American University), Nikki Taylor (RIT), Kelly Owings (Union College) and others.
Joining the staff this year will be former Fulton standout Lindsey Larkin, a member of the Syracuse University women’s softball team.
