OSWEGO, NY – Laura Miceli and Emily Kolenda combined on a no-hitter as the Oswego High School Lady Buccaneers defeated Nottingham 17-0 in the season-opener.
The Lady Bucs took advantage of 12 walks and pounded eight hits en route to the victory.
Senior captain Michele Canale doubled and singled and drove in four runs. Erika Lazzaro tripled and singled and had three runs batted in and Allie Yule rapped two singles out of the leadoff spot. Also adding hits were Jess Slight and Taylor Maas.
Miceli started in the circle, allowing only two walks in four innings, while striking out five. Kolenda pitched the final three innings, retiring all nine hitters she faced. She struck out four.
The next four games for the Bucs are non-league games against CNYCL powers Liverpool (home Wednesday at 5 p.m.), West Genesee (home Friday 5 p.m.), Baldwinsville, and Cicero-North Syracuse.
Lady Buc Lacrosse Wins Third
In a nail biting, cliffhanger the Oswego Lady Bucs varsity lacrosse team captured its third win of the season with a 13-12 come-from-behind victory over Auburn.
The teams put on a classic tussle throughout the game as the Bucs gained momentum in the second half.
Halfway through the Bucs trailed the Maroons 8-6, but the Bucs scored the first five goals of the third to go up 11-8.
Auburn rallied to tie the contest, but as the game wound down Taylor Giglio and Leah Folgherait scored two important goals for the Bucs to clinch the win.
Auburn attempted to come back and cut the deficit to one goal, but they could not come up with the equalizer.
Maia Czarnecki and Amanda Dâ€™Amico each scored four goals for the Bucs while Giglio finished with two and getting single goals were Kait Armstrong, McCarrick and Folgherait.
In net, Tayler Bowman had 13 saves.
Oswego returns to action on Friday at 7 p.m. as the Liverpool Warriors will host the Bucs.
Buc Varsity Nine Falls
The Oswego varsity boy’s baseball team lost 10-0 to Liverpool as the home team exploded in the very first inning.
Liverpool stormed to an 8-0 first inning lead and after that the Bucs settled down to give up just two more runs.
The Bucs mustered just two hits including a Mike Brown double.
Lady Buc Lady Lax Jayvees Fall
Visiting Auburn jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead, and the Jayvee Lady Bucs were unable to get any closer.
The scrappy Auburn team capitalized on its ability to get ground balls and control the draw circle to lead at the half 9 â€“ 2.
Oswego bounced back in the second half behind the inspired play of goalie Kerrigan Cummins, limiting Auburn to only four goals while scoring two.
The Lady Bucs had four players score as Christi Hoefer, Libby Sherman, Abby Haessig and Alexa Healy each had one goal.
Next up will be a trip to Solvay on Friday, to face the Liverpool Warriors.
