The Bucs lost the first set 25-13, but rallied for wins of 25-21 before falling in the fourth set 25-22. However, the fifth and deciding game saw the Lady Bucs gain a 25-17 win.
Coach Ron Ahart said, “It is impossible to pick one player who had an exceptional match tonight. This was a total team effort. Morgan Lavner with serving and defense, Vanessa Sheffield hitting, Jessica Benjamin with all around play and Katie Flanagan setting all stood out statistically.”
In set one Oswego trailed the entire set and needed to improve passing and serving. The Bucs rallied with two straight wins.
Ahart said, “I thought our toughness and effort to come back after the first set loss turned this match around.”
In the fourth set the Bucs had a couple of timely miscues.
However in the fifth the strong serving of Lavner, setting by Flanagan and timely hitting by Sheffield Lauren Hunt, Cari Reed and Benjamin secured a tough league win.
Ahart said, “We also played well on defense chasing down many hitting attempts by the Redhawks.”
Sheffield finished with 25 kills, five point blocks and six aces while Benjamin had 15 kills, three aces and a dozen digs. Flanagan finished with 51 asasists, four digs and an ace. Lauren Corradino finished with six kills while Mary Montagnola had 10 digs and Cari Reed seven kills and two aces. Hunt had four kills, Kelsey Ross six digs, Lavner three kills, four aces and seven digs and Katelyn Stevens three digs.
