LAKE EFFECT SNOW WARNING UPDATED

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN BUFFALO HAS ISSUED A LAKE EFFECT SNOW WARNING, WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM 6 PM TUESDAY TO 1 PM THURSDAY.

THIS UPGRADES THE LAKE EFFECT SNOW WATCH WHICH WAS
PREVIOUSLY IN EFFECT.

* LOCATIONS…OSWEGO COUNTY. THROUGH MONDAY TONIGHT SNOW WILL BE LIMITED  TO THE FAR NORTHERN PORTION OF THE COUNTY.

LATE TUESDAY THROUGH  THURSDAY SNOW WILL IMPACT MOST OF THE COUNTY.

* TIMING…THE FIRST LAKE EFFECT SNOW WARNING IS IN EFFECT
THROUGH LATE MONDAY TONIGHT.

THE SECOND LAKE EFFECT SNOW WARNING IS IN EFFECT FROM EARLY TUESDAY EVENING THROUGH EARLY THURSDAY AFTERNOON.

* ACCUMULATIONS…ANOTHER 1 TO 2 FEET ACROSS THE FAR NORTHERN PORTION OF THE COUNTY LATE THIS AFTERNOON AND TONIGHT.

STORM TOTALS IN THE FIRST EVENT OF 2 TO 3 FEET IN PERSISTENT BANDS. 7  TO 14 INCHES TUESDAY NIGHT … 6 TO 12 INCHES WEDNESDAY … 5 TO 10 INCHES WEDNESDAY NIGHT … AND 1 TO 3 INCHES THURSDAY.

STORM TOTALS IN THE SECOND EVENT OF UP TO 2 FEET IN PERSISTENT BANDS.

* WINDS…SOUTHWEST 20 TO 30 MPH WITH GUSTS UP TO 40 MPH PRODUCING SIGNIFICANT BLOWING AND DRIFTING SNOW.

* VISIBILITIES…LESS THAN A QUARTER MILE AT TIMES.

* IMPACTS…LAKE EFFECT SNOW AND BLOWING SNOW WILL PRODUCE
DANGEROUS TRAVEL CONDITIONS. ROADS WILL BECOME TREACHEROUS IF NOT IMPASSABLE WITHIN THE MOST PERSISTENT SNOW BANDS, ALONG WITH VISIBILITIES DROPPING TO NEAR ZERO IN WHITEOUT CONDITIONS AT TIMES.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

IF YOU LOSE POWER AND PLAN ON RUNNING A GENERATOR…MAKE SURE THAT THE GENERATOR IS LOCATED OUTDOORS AND IS PROPERLY VENTILATED. SPACE HEATERS SHOULD ALSO BE PROPERLY VENTILATED AND USED ONLY IF THEY ARE OPERATING PROPERLY.

MAKE SURE SNOW DOES NOT BLOCK EXHAUSTS AND FRESH AIR INTAKES FOR HIGH EFFICIENCY FURNACES AND WATER HEATERS.
