Laker Athletes Earn SUNYAC Accolades

FREDONIA, N.Y. – Oswego State junior men’s basketball forward Hayden Ward and senior men’s indoor track athlete Dylan Hardwick have been named the SUNYAC Athletes of the Week in their respective sports for the week ending February 12, 2012.

Ward averaged 16.5 points per game off 58.8 percent (10-of-17) shooting from the floor and 81.8 percent (9-of-11) shooting from the charity stripe, helping the Lakers clinch the No. 1-seed in the upcoming playoffs. In addition, he shot 80 percent (4-of-5) from long range. Ward scored 13 points in just 23 minutes of action in a 68-55 win over Oneonta on Friday. He followed up his performance against the Red Dragons with a 20-point explosion against New Paltz on Saturday, lifting the Lakers to a 92-68 victory. Against the Hawks, he shot 7-of-10 from the floor, which included a 3-of-4 mark from distance.

Hardwick placed second in the 5,000-meter run at the Cornell Kane Invitational on Saturday, clocking a program-record-setting 15:09.78. That performance, which also cleared the qualifying time for the ECAC Championships by more than 10 seconds, eclipsed the former program standard of 15:18.60 set by Jeffrey Beck in 2003. Hardwick also competed on the Lakers’ 4×800-meter relay that charted a third-place time of 8:10.04, which missed the ECAC qualifying mark by 1.04 seconds.
