UTICA, N.Y. – The Oswego State baseball team (7-9) claimed its second doubleheader sweep in the last five days thanks to a five-run rally in each victory over Utica College (1-13) on Wednesday. Kyle Miller (Jr., Miller Place, N.Y.) pitched six strong innings with five strikeouts and no walks to help earn the 8-5 victory in game one, while a six-RBI effort by John Rauseo (Fr., Mattituck, N.Y.) led the way in an 11-3 win in game two.

The Lakers opened the day with a quick run in the top of the first inning in game one and added five more in the second to pull away for the 8-5 victory.

Alex Jurczynski (Jr., Schenectady, N.Y.) singled home Mike Stark (Jr., Rochester, N.Y.) with two outs in the first to start the scoring.

The five-run second inning started with a single by Brian Hamilton (Fr., Liverpool, N.Y.) followed by walks issued to Tyler Baker (So., Hannibal, N.Y.) and Scott Buniak (So., Clifton Park, N.Y.) to load the bases.

The first run scored on a wild pitch before David Mazzullo (Sr., Rochester, N.Y.) drove in Baker with a sacrifice fly to left field.

The Lakers added an insurance run in the top of the seventh when Baker drove in Hamilton with a two-out RBI double to left field.

Utica scored twice more in its last at-bat, but the Lakers’ Mark Schaper (Sr., Warwick, N.Y.) retired the final two batters to seal the win.

Matt Miller finished with three RBI, while Stark and Hamilton each had two hits.

In game two, the Lakers jumped out to the 5-0 lead right away in the top of the first inning.

Mazzullo doubled to left center to drive in Stark for the first run of the game before Matt Miller added a RBI single.

The runs kept coming as Rauseo singled in both Andrew Lazzaro (Jr., Oswego, N.Y.) and Matt Miller. Steve Roman (Sr., Middletown, N.Y.) wrapped up with the scoring with a single that scored Rauseo.

Utica picked up a run in the bottom of the first, but the Lakers plated two more in the third.
