BROCTON, N.Y. – The Oswego State men’s and women’s cross country teams both took ninth place at the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Championships held in Fredonia on Saturday.
The Lakers edged Potsdam in both men’s and women’s competition, with Geneseo taking home team honors in both events. The Blue Knights finished with 20 points in the men’s event and 45 points in the women’s competition. The Lakers finished with 240 and 231 points in the men’s and women’s races, respectively.
Geneseo’s Alex Brimstein took home the individual honors for the men, and Cortland’s Emily Cotey finished first in the women’s event.
In the men’s event, senior Jeff Rozler (Eden, N.Y.) finished first for the Lakers in 44th place with a time of 28:07.55. Fellow senior Ben Sweet (Pine Bush, N.Y.) crossed the line eight positions back, and sophomore Nick Montesano (Apalachin, N.Y.) was 30 seconds behind him. Juniors Damian Archie (Binghamton, N.Y.) and Kyle Gilyard (Endicott, N.Y.) were the final two scorers for the Lakers, taking 55th and 59th place, respectively.
In the women’s race, junior captain Christina Sakowski (Cicero, N.Y.) paced the Lakers with a time of 25:33.07, good for 38th place. Meghan Murphy (So., Dix Hills, N.Y.) wasn’t far behind, finishing 42nd with a time of 25:41.08. Katie Laris (Fr., Clay, N.Y.) and Katie Bott (Jr., Camillus, N.Y.) both notched top-50 finishes, taking 45th and 49th place, respectively. The final Laker harrier to cross the line was Marta Tomaszewski (Fr., Rockaway Beach, N.Y.) in 57th place.
The Lakers are back in action on Sat., Nov. 10, as they travel to Rochester to compete in the NCAA Atlantic Regional Championships.
