Oswego, N.Y. – The Oswego State men’s basketball team jumped out to an early lead on Saturday and cruised to defeat SUNY Potsdam, 78-49 to round out its White Out Weekend action.
Oswego is now 6-1 on the year and improves to 2-0 in SUNYAC play.
The Lakers went on an immediate 8-0 run to start the first half. Later in the first, they would go on another run, this time scoring 17 unanswered points. Mark Candelario topped off the run with a two-point shot to make the score 33-6, with 8:03 left in the half.
Oswego would score eight more points in the first, making the score 41-16 going into halftime.
Oswego’s dominance continued into the second, with Kyle Covley making the score 43-16 to begin the half. The Lakers stretched their lead to 30 points with a layup from Daniel Ross with 11:43 left in the game.
A well-balanced offense allowed the Lakers to push their lead even farther. Matt Crockett made a 3-point shot with 1:03 left, making the score 78-49.
The team grabbed 41 total rebounds in the game, 12 of those off the offensive glass.
Every player saw playing time in the game, with Daniel Ross leading the team with 18 points and four rebounds.Rashawn Powell and Candelario each had a team-high seven rebounds. Powell finished with 16 points while Candelario had five. Brian Sortino had four assists and six points on the night.
Oswego will return to action on at 8 p.m. on Friday when it hosts Cazenovia College.
