Oswego, N.Y. – The Oswego State men’s basketball team improved to 7-1 heading into the New Year with an easy 79-49 victory over Cazenovia College on Friday night in Max Ziel Gymnasium.
The Lakers opened the game on a 17-1 run over the first 4:31 and never looked back.
Oswego’s largest lead was 31 points and came with 1:27 left in the game, holding a 77-46 edge on the Wildcats.
As a team, the Lakers forced 17 Cazenovia turnovers while assisting on 15 Oswego baskets.
On the night, 13 players saw action for Oswego, with 11 of those scoring in the contest.
The Lakers also had 11 players grab a board, seven record a steal, another seven dish an assist and five block a shot.
Brian Sortino led all scorers with 19 points while Daniel Ross chipped 18.
Sortino was not selfish, however, distributing the ball for a team-high seven assists.
Also scoring in double digits for the Lakers was Rashawn Powell, who tallied 10 on the night.
Powell and Mark Candelario shared the lead for rebounds, each securing eight.
Candelario locked down the paint with his defense, swatting six Wildcat shots over the course of the game.
Oswego will return to action after the holiday season, hosting Cobleskill at 4 p.m. on January 4.
