Laker men’s basketball team ranked No. 35

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn.  – The Oswego State men’s basketball team received 54 votes in the preseason Top 25 poll, which was released on Oct. 22. Oswego’s tallies has it sitting in the ‘others receiving votes’ section, the 54 nods making the Lakers the No. 35 team in the country entering the season.

Of the 51 teams combined from the top 25 and others receiving votes, Oswego is the only one recognized from the SUNYAC and one of only three teams from the East Region.

This poll comes on the heels of Oswego winning the 2015 SUNYAC Championship title to advance to the NCAA Championship for the second time in four years. From that squad, the Lakers return all but one starter, including All-Region and SUNYAC Tournament MVP Brian Sortino. The other returning starters are seniors Kyle Covley and Walter Sampson and sophomore forward Dustin Pond.

In all, Oswego returns 10 of an eligible 13 players from last year’s roster, a team that finished 19-10 overall and 12-6 in league action.

The first regular season poll from will be released on Monday, Nov. 30. Oswego’s season begins on Nov. 14 in Canton, against the St. Lawrence University Saints.
