Oswego, N.Y. – The Oswego State men’s basketball defeated Lancaster Bible College 62-50 in the season opener as it hosted the Max Ziel Tournament on Friday night.
Oswego will play Neumann University at 6 p.m. on Saturday in the championship game.
Oswego came out shooting lights out in the second half, starting on a 15-2 run to build its lead to 41-25 with 15:02 remaining in the game. The Lakers shot 6-for-9 during the span, including 3-for-5 from the 3-point line.
Oswego’s burst allowed the team to play with a comfortable lead for the remainder of the coming, never allowing the Chargers to cut the lead into single digits.
At the half, Oswego led Lancaster Bible 26-23 despite only shooting 33.3% (9-for-27) from the floor. The period entertained 10 lead changes and four ties as the two teams played neck-and-neck.
Daniel Ross led all scorers in the first half with nine points and grabbed a team-best four caroms.
Ross finished the game with a double-double, scoring a game-high 21 points while snagging 10 boards.
The Lakers also had another player in double digits as Rashawn Powell tallied 10 points while collecting seven rebounds.
Eight different players scored for Oswego with the Lakers shooting 41.4% (24-for-58) from the field. As a team, Oswego assisted on 12 scoring plays, stole seven passes and blocked seven shots.
