ROCHESTER, NY — The Oswego State volleyball team took two victories on the opening day of the University of Rochester Invitational.
Its two wins pushes the Lakers’ record back to .500 at 3-3 as the squad will play two more matches on Saturday, starting with Skidmore College at 1 p.m. followed by Hamilton College at 3 p.m.
Oswego nabbed its first match by beating the host Yellowjackets by a score of 3-1 (19-25, 25-23, 25-18, 25-16).
The Lakers were able to capture the victory against Rochester with help from Jessica Long and Kelsey Dillon, who recorded 11 and 14 kills, respectively. Stephanie Bailey and Sarah Meredith also pitched in offensively, each recording over eight kills.
Libero Rachel Ruggaber showed her defensive skills during the match, collecting 24 of the teams 74 digs.
Oswego cruised past Sage in just three games, taking down the Gators 25-16, 25-19, 25-23.
Long and Bailey each filled the stat sheet against Sage, with Long having a team-high 10 kills along with 14 digs, just one shy of a team-high, behind Ruggaber’s 15. Bailey had eight kills in the match and had a team-best six block assists.
Olivia Zimmerman led the team with 21 assists while Laura Edwards finished with 14.
Hannah Dahlgren and Kelsey Dillon each added significantly to the team’s 44 kills in the match, with nine and seven, respectively.
