Laker Women’s Basketball Squad Drops Second Straight

Manhattan, N.Y. – The Oswego State women’s basketball team dropped a 73-63 decision on Saturday to Juniata College on the second day of the NYU Holiday Tournament.

With the loss, the Lakers fall to 4-5 on the year.

Oswego opened the scoring in the game with a Lauren Nunziato layup before battling back and forth through the opening minutes.

The Lakers held a two-point lead at 14-12 with 11:15 remaining in the period after Haley Witchella knocked down a jumper. That lead would prove to be Oswego’s last of the contest, despite knotting the score at 19-19 and 21-21.

Juniata built a 37-26 advantage at the half and despite Oswego outscoring the Eagles in the second half, it was not enough to overturn the deficit.

Four players scored in double-digits for the Lakers, led by Jenn Robbins’ team-best 15.

The senior also led the squad with six assists while also collecting a steal.

Nunziato finished with 13 points while her sister, Alison Nunziato, tallied 12. Paula Egelston rounded out the double-digit scorers, knocking down five field-goals for 10 points.

Egelston did garner a double-double, leading the team with 10 boards.

Oswego will look to get back in the winning column at 6 p.m. on Tuesday when it returns to conference play at Oneonta.
