Laker Women’s Ice Hockey Edges Neumann In OT

Oswego, N.Y. – The Oswego State women’s ice hockey team (3-1-1) edged Neumann University, 2-1, in an ECAC West overtime battle on Saturday.

The first goal of the game came at 10:51 in the first when the Knights’ Lauren Cusack scored on an assist from Megan Russelo and Shanelle Doucette.

The second period was scoreless for both teams.

At 8:31 in the third, Neumann’s Megan Russelo was given a two-minute penalty for contact to the head.

Oswego used the power play to their advantage, and senior Megan Hagg scored a goal with an assist from Leslie Jarvis and Kendall Appelbaum to tie the game at one.

17 shots from the Lakers later, the game went into overtime.

In the overtime period, Neumann shot four times before Oswego got seven shots off. Emma Smetaniuk scored the game-winning goal for the Lakers at 4:19 into overtime.

Melissa Seamont and Hagg assisted Smetaniuk with the goal.

The Lakers and the Knights will play again at 3 p.m. on Sunday at the Oswego State Campus Center Arena.
