POTSDAM, N.Y – The Oswego State women’s ice hockey team earned its second straight shutout victory as it defeated Potsdam 2-0 on the road Saturday afternoon. With the win, Oswego improves to 4-2-2 overall and 3-1-2 in the conference.
Potsdam moves to 3-4-2 on the year (1-4-1 ECAC West).
After both teams were held scoreless in the first two periods, Oswego was able to break the stalemate ten seconds into the third.
The Lakers won the face off to open the stanza and Olivia Ellis gained the zone. She then passed it to Andrea Noss who was able to beat the Potsdam goaltender.
Brennan Butler would later add an insurance goal with 10:32 left to ensure the Laker victory.
Mariah Madrigal posted 25 saves for Oswego, earning her second shutout in as many games.
The sophomore goalie has now gone 169:21 without letting in a goal.
The Lakers held the advantage at the faceoff dot as well, winning 35 of the 63 taken.
Women’s hockey will return to action at 2 p.m. on Tuesday as the team travels to Hamilton College to take on the Continentals in a non-conference matchup.
