The theme of the 2015 Earth Day Poster Contest, designed for students K-6, was “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle.”

Participating students were encouraged to showcase creativity with their entries, but also understanding of the contest’s theme.

In total, 69 Lanigan students participated in the contest, more than 60 more than any other school in Senator Patty Ritchie’s 48th Senatorial District.

Lanigan kindergartener Addison Barrick was crowned the winner of the contest, and was recently honored during a school assembly.

Barrick’s entry depicted a young girl watering carrots in a garden, and featured the text, ‘I can grow carrots. They need watering and sun.’”

“Each entry from my district displayed tremendous originality and vision as well as obvious concern for the ecological future of our communities and our state. I am proud of your work and that of your classmates, and encourage you to continue to study and learn more about the serious challenges that face our environment,” Senator Ritchie said in a release.
