Lanigan teachers make good on reading challenge promise

FULTON, NY – Four months ago, as the 2011-2012 school year was coming to a close, Lanigan Elementary School sixth grade teachers Margaret Catanzaro and Harry Meeker challenged the school’s then fifth grade students to a summer reading challenge.

The challenge was simple: read, read, read and keep a log of the reading that they do all summer long.

In return, the teachers promised to take a few pies to the face during a school-wide assembly at the start of the 2012-2013 school year.

On September 28, the two teachers made good on their promise and students Connor Wilde, Katelyn Moon, Destiny Snyder, Sarah Fisch, and Ryan Barry were each given an opportunity to reap the rewards of their summer reading.
