On Monday, eight teams (four representing third and fourth grades and four comprised of fifth and sixth graders) showcased their knowledge of a selection of books they have read.

Library media specialists from each FCSD elementary school were on hand to read questions and tally the scores accordingly.

Once a question was read, students had 30 seconds to write down the author and the book title that the question referenced.

With confidence and poise, The Reading Rumors team came in first place in the third and fourth grade contest, while The Reading Ninjas 3.0 edged out The Novelettes in a tiebreaker round at the fifth and sixth grade level.

“I’m very impressed with all of you,” said Volney Elementary School library media specialist Sarah Fay. “These questions were not easy and you did a great job. Good luck to the teams at the county competition!”

The Oswego County Battle of the Books will be held from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday in the G. Ray Bodley High School Auditorium.

After edging out The Novelettes in a tiebreaker round, Elias Reynolds, Nic Schremp and Michael Brown celebrate their team’s win at the FCSD Level 2 Battle of the Books competition.
