Large Oswego Kartway Contingent Ready for Battle at New York State Indoor Kart Championships

OSWEGO, NY – Several Oswego Kartway weekly racers are preparing to compete in this weekend’s 23rd  annual N.Y. State Indoor Kart Championships, to be held December 4-5 in the Americraft Center of Progress Building located on the NYS Fairgrounds in Syracuse.

DJ Shuman scored the best Pro finish of all Oswego racers at the NYS Indoor Championships in 2014, and looks to further improve this weekend racing in Pro Clone.

The N.Y. State Indoor Championships annually attract some of the best kart racers in the country to compete on the concrete floors of the Center of Progress Building.  More than 150 entries will be on hand, with drivers in two separate Pro divisions battling for top prizes of $500.

Among those from Oswego Kartway competing in the Pro divisions on December 5 will be Triple Crown champions DJ Shuman and Nick Demling as well as track champion Jamie Shutts.

While contending in the Pro Clone division, Shuman will also take on Clone Heavy and Clone Super Heavy driving the HRE house kart.  Shuman placed sixth in last year’s Pro Clone main event while also taking third in Clone Super Heavy.

Joining Shuman in Pro Clone will be the Kartway’s Clone Heavy track champion Shutts, competing for the first time on the concrete of the NYS Fairgrounds.

After winning multiple main events at Oswego this season, Shutts will look to carry that momentum to the indoor ranks in both the Pro Clone and Clone Heavy divisions.

As Shuman and Shutts take on Pro Clone, Demling will once again compete in the prestigious Pro 4 Flathead division, which has been the highlight of the indoor championships for several years.

Riding a Trick Voodoo kart with KSR Power, Demling will look to improve on his eighth place finish in last year’s Pro 4 main as he also takes on a yet to be determined amateur Stock division.

Demling did take a checkered flag at Syracuse in 2014, grabbing the win in the Sr. Champ main.

Joining Shuman, Shutts, and Demling in the adult ranks at this year’s indoor championships will be Seth Baum, Mike Fowler, Ross Spilman, and Mike Chwalek.

Baum, the Kartway’s Senior Driver of the Year in 2015, will compete in Clone Super Heavy alongside Shuman and Kartway Classic Champion, Spilman.

Recent Kartway rookies Fowler and Chwalek will contend in Clone Heavy and Stock Heavy, respectively.

Oswego Stock Light contender Zach Mooney is also listed as a pre-registrant for the weekend.

A host of junior racers from Oswego Kartway also plan to take on the concrete including track champions Tanner and Tyler Emmons.

Each of the Emmons will contend in Junior Clone as well as Junior Purple Flathead this weekend.

Tanner was the Kartway’s Junior Purple Clone track champion while Tyler scored his track title in Sr. Green Clone.

Tyler Thompson won four main events in the Kartway’s Senior Blue Clone division this year and he will contend this weekend in the Blue Clone class.

Kartway Classic champion Jake Holmes will join the Emmons’ and Thompson as junior contenders on the weekend as Holmes will compete in both Flathead and Clone junior divisions.

Other pre-registered junior drivers for the weekend from Oswego Kartway include Camren Clark and Kaleb Sidman.

Heat racing at Saturday’s indoor championships is slated to begin at 11:30 a.m. with main events scheduled for 4 p.m.
