OSWEGO COUNTY – The New York State Police have arrested a Sandy Creek man following a violent domestic incident that resulted in serious injuries to multiple members of the State Police.
On April 26, 2026, at approximately 7:27 a.m., State Police responded to a report of a domestic dispute at a residence on State Route 3 in the Town of Sandy Creek, Oswego County. Upon arrival and subsequent investigation, members attempted to take the suspect, Neil Jones, age 56, into custody.
During the arrest, Jones armed himself with a machete and attacked responding members, striking them and causing significant injuries.
Two members sustained serious but non-life threatening injuries and were transported to Upstate University Hospital for treatment. One member suffered a laceration to the right index finger that severed a tendon and will likely require surgery. Another member sustained a laceration to the wrist, a laceration to the quadricep, and two broken ribs. Both members are expected to recover.
Jones was taken into custody at the scene and transported for evaluation.

Bail was set at $500,000 cash, $1,000,000 bond, or $5,000,000 partially secured bond (10%). Jones is scheduled to return to court on May 21, 2026.
The investigation remains ongoing.
