Scriba Fatal Motor Vehicle Accident Lakeview Road

OSWEGO COUNTY – On July 4^th, 2025, at around 6:26 PM, members of the Oswego County Sheriff’s Office responded to a one-vehicle motor vehicle accident on Lakeview Road in the Town of Scriba.

Preliminary investigation revealed that a 2017 Dodge Durango was traveling south on Lakeview Road when the operator lost control and it exited the roadway on the eastern side, struck a tree and caught fire. The operator of the vehicle, identified as 34-year-old Gerald Burke of Oswego, was pronounced dead at the scene.  There was one passenger in the vehicle, a child.   The child was pulled from the vehicle by several Good Samaritans who live nearby and escaped with non-life-threatening injuries.

 The Oswego County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on scene by the Menter Ambulance, the New York State Police, the Scriba Fire Department, and the Oswego City Fire Department.

The accident is still under investigation.
