Student Lighthouse Team members show off their leadership bulletin board at New Haven Elementary School.

The handful of third and fourth graders went through a rigorous, multi-step application process before they were selected for the Student Lighthouse Team based on the following criteria: public speaking, respectfulness, teamwork and time management, among other traits.

The student team has worked alongside the Staff Lighthouse Team, which has monitored the student progress and ensured they have remained upstanding school citizens.

Each honoree has attended monthly leadership meetings, introduced the student body to the Leader in Me/ “7 Habits of Happy Kids” monthly focus, recited both student and staff leadership shout-outs, planned the school’s annual Leadership Day and worked with one another to offer positive reinforcements throughout the school.

Staff Lighthouse Team member Andrea Barry, also a third grade teacher, said all participants have served as role models for their peers.

Student Lighthouse Team members are: Remi Rombough, Addison LaRue, Faith Thomas, Jaidyn Landphere, Mattelyn Teifke, Reese Zemotel, Braydon Beasley, Kaylee Messick, Juliette Boots and Hailey Workman.
