Leon T. Slobe II, 83


OSWEGO, NY – Leon T. Slobe II, 83, a resident of the Klocks Corners Road in the Town of Scriba, passed away Saturday March 15, 2014, at his home.

Mr. Slobe was born on April 21, 1930, in Oswego, the son of the late Leon and Eugenia Slobe, who were Ukrainian immigrants.

He was a life resident.

His wife of 46 years, Joan (Egan) Slobe, passed away in 1998.

Prior to his retirement, he was employed, for 33 years, with the Nestle’s Corp. in Fulton.

He was a veteran of the US Air Force, and a member of the American Legion.

Mr. Slobe was a 20-year member of the Scriba Fire Department, and a long-time parishioner of Sacred Heart Church in Scriba.

He was a former board member of Boy Scout Troop #31 in Scriba and a former member of the Ontario Aquanauts, Inc.

Mr. Slobe was a civic-minded man who was sometimes referred to as the “Mayor of Scriba.”

He was an avid scuba diver and fisherman and enjoyed travelling and spending time with the Scriba Senior Citizens group.

He is survived by two daughters, Bridget (Dennis) Cleary of Hannibal and Ellen Krolikowski of Oswego; three sons, Leon Slobe III of Greensboro, NC, Karl (Nancy) Slobe Sr. of Scriba and Michael (Patti) Slobe of Danielson, Connecticut.

He was a loving grandfather to 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was also predeceased by a close companion, Leah Pluff, who died in 2008.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Dain-Cullinan Funeral Home.

Calling hours will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, following the funeral service, at the funeral home, 112 E. Second St., Oswego.

Following the calling hours, family and friends are invited to a reception to be held at the Scriba Fire Barn on Route 104.
