Oswego Fire Department officials also established a safety zone in front of the building, and closed a portion of East Second Street.

The Oswego Fire Department was notified by officials from the Oswego Public Library this morning, questioning the safety of the decorative facade.
Library officials stated that they received a recent report done by a structural engineer, citing issues with non-structural components of the east facing wall.
In the interest of public safety, a safety zone was established on East Second Street to avoid anyone from being injured by falling debris.
Oswego Fire Chief Jeff McCrobie said, “We commend the Oswego Public Library’s proactive approach to public safety, and while this may be a short-term inconvenience, it will ensure the public remains safe in that area.”
The Oswego Public Library remains open during its normal hours and visitors can access the library via East First Street.

This decision was made by the board of trustees due to concerns regarding the inside condition of the upper turrets located on the attic level at the front of the building.

They have been in contact with a structural engineer and have two additional engineers coming in to examine the turrets.

The library has contacted LeChase Construction who did original work on the building.

The city code enforcement and fire department are also involved.

This portion of the library wasn’t part of the recent restorations of the library.

Library officials said they are sorry for any inconvenience.

Please contact the library at 341-5867 if you have a hardship in using the side entrance.

In other news, the Rosamond Gifford Zoo unveiled its newest addition on May 26.
