OSWEGO, NY – Lillian (Onofri) Familo, 90, died Tuesday April 26, 2016, at St. Luke’s Health Services.
Born in Oswego, Lillian was the daughter of the late Dominic and Mary (Vona) Onofri and the beloved mother of Lillian (George) Howell, Irene (David) Ford, John (Patty) Familo, Sam (Sue) Familo, Dorothy (David) Hamm and Alice (Bill) Scott and the cherished grandmother to 16 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
Lillian is also survived by her sister, Louise Crisafulli; brother, Francis (Mary) Onofri; and sisters-in law, Genevieve Loughrey and Marie Bellow.
She was predeceased by her siblings, James Onofri, Anna Giambo and Victoria Loughlin.
Lillian retired from the Oswego County Department of Personnel where she worked as a senior typist for 20 plus years and was a life-long communicant of St. Joseph’s Church in Oswego.
She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren whom she taught how to make jigsaw puzzles, play cards, bingo, many games and the fine art of porch sitting.
Lillian will be greatly missed for her easy going spirit, famous homemade Italian gnocchi and the world’s best jello.
She was an avid reader and enjoyed knitting, crocheting, playing cards and taking walks.
Lillian’s family would like to thank the staff at Bishop Commons and St. Luke’s for the care and kindness they bestowed.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 9 a.m. in St. Joseph’s Church, Oswego, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Greg Kreinheder.
Relatives and friends may call Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Sugar & Scanlon Funeral Home, 147 W. Fourth St., Oswego.
