FULTON – At a recent Fulton Sunrise Rotary Club meeting, Rotarian Linda Rossiter introduced Steve Chirello representing the Literacy Coalition of Oswego County.
He has been on the board of directors for more than seven years.
He showed a video that highlighted the problem with 20% in our county reading below fifth grade levels leading to life-long social and economic deficiencies.
The challenging role of elementary schools and teachers was touched on.
The connection of literacy issues to poverty was noted, along with the powerful role that caring, engaged parents play in the success of their children.
