Live Nativity and Nativities by Candlelight at SW Oswego United Methodist Church

Southwest Oswego United Methodist Church will present their annual “Live Nativity” on Saturday, December 12th from 6 until 8 p.m. Church members of all ages will portray the Holy Family, angels and Wise Men. The outdoor event takes place in the shed and also features live animals. Look for the star high above.

Inside the sanctuary the annual “Nativities by Candlelight” will feature dozens of nativity sets on loan from church members and friends. Since the first “Nativities by Candlelight” event three years ago many church families have found themselves adding to their nativity set collections. Of special note this year will be a set handmade by UPAVIM Crafts in Guatemala on loan from “Que Colores” in Oswego. Illuminated by candlelight, the walk through the sanctuary is a perfect way to reflect on the Christmas story.

Once again this year the Tri-County Singers will present a Christmas cantata at 6:30 in Fellowship Hall. “Morning Star” by Joseph Martin uses the idea of Christ as the morning star as the recurring theme throughout. Many familiar carols, such as “Joy to the World”, are combined to tell the story. The choir will conclude the cantata with “For Unto Us A Child Is Born” from Handel’s “Messiah”. The choir is directed by Abel Searor with accompaniment by Terry Pawlenko.

Cookies and cocoa will be served in Fellowship Hall throughout the evening.

Southwest Oswego United Methodist Church is located at 7721 State Route 104 in the Town of Oswego. For more information call the church on the day of the event at 343-0996.
