Representatives from a number of Oswego County’s human services agencies will host the second annual Oswego County Youth Program Forum on Friday, October 24th at the Elk’s Lodge in Oswego.  Sign-in begins at 8:00 am with the program starting promptly at 8:30 am.

Open to anyone interested in learning about the many services and programs that are available to youth in Oswego County, the Youth Program Forum will provide youth service providers with an opportunity to share information on their programs while learning about other youth programs that exist in Oswego County.  “The Youth Forum is an excellent example of our human services agencies working together to help achieve a common good…helping our youth and their families.  This kind of collaboration truly  demonstrates the Live United concept that we are all connected,” said Executive Director of the United Way of Greater Oswego County, Melanie Trexler.

Director of the Oswego City-County Youth Bureau, Kathy Fenlon, a member of the event’s planning committee, explained that the format of the forum would allow for agency representatives to present a short synopsis of their particular program followed by a two-minute question and answer period.  Each agency will also be able to display and distribute information about their youth programs to those in attendance.

Committee member, Kathy Buchiere of the Oswego County Department of Social Services, is looking forward to the Youth Program Forum and encourages agencies who offer youth programs to attend this informative event.  “We received tremendously positive feedback from last year’s forum.  Both the participating agencies and the community members that attended found the forum to be a very rewarding experience.  The Youth Program Forum will be of interest to any agency that serves our youth community and I encourage them to become involved in this year’s forum,” said Buchiere.  “Agencies wishing to participate in the Youth Program Forum may contact Executive Director of the United Way, Melanie Trexler at 593-1900 or via e-mail at: [email protected] to register for the event.  Registration is limited to 28 presenters and will be filled on a first come, first served basis.”  The deadline for registering to present at the Youth Forum is Tuesday, September 30th.

The committee is anticipating welcoming representatives from organizations offering youth services such as:

– Jobs/Training
– Mentoring Services
– Recreation Programs/Services
– Runaway/Shelter/Homeless Services
– Family Focused Programming
– Cultural Services
– Juvenile Justice Services
– Youth Development Services
– Conflict Resolution Services
– Health/Mental Health Services

“This is a wonderful opportunity for youth services providers to come together and show the community what they have to offer the youth of Oswego County as well as inform them about careers and employment opportunities that exist in their organization,” added Ms. Fenlon.

For more information on the Youth Program Forum you may contact Kathy Fenlon at the Oswego City-County Youth Bureau, 349-3451 or via e-mail at [email protected]  Individuals and organizations that are not presenting information that wish to attend the event do not need to pre-register.
