Planning committee members have invited chefs, cooks, bakers, and baristas throughout Oswego County to feature a pumpkin themed item on their menu during the week leading up the CNY Great Pumpkin Festival.

According to planning committee chair John Zanewych, the competitive juices are flowing as restaurants and eateries experiment to find a tasty pumpkin themed item to compliment their menu.

“I have spoken to several restaurants and eateries and they are excited to be part of the CNY Great Pumpkin Festival, said Zanewych. “They’re looking forward to competing for the Golden Pumpkin Award and the recognition of creating the best tasting, most unique pumpkin themed item. From appetizers and entrees to desserts and beverages the possibilities are endless.”

According to Zanewych, committee members will begin visiting participating restaurants September 29 and continue throughout the week prior to the CNY Great Pumpkin Festival.

The committee will select their three favorite menu items, recognize the restaurants or eateries and announce the winner of the Golden Pumpkin Award on Sunday during the festival.

“It’s a fun way for chefs and cooks throughout Oswego County to join pumpkin growers in enjoying some friendly competition, treat their patrons to new taste sensations and vie for opportunity to display the Golden Pumpkin Award in their establishment. Visit the chamber website at www.oswegofultonchamber.com for a complete list of participating restaurants and eateries. Don’t miss out on these tasty pumpkin themed delicacies as they will be available for a limited time only,” Zanewych said.

The Great Pumpkin Fest will be held October 4 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and October 5 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The festival will fill Oswego’s Washington Square Park with crafters, fresh from the farm produce, food vendors, music, and games and rides for children of all ages.

The Great Pumpkin Weigh-In will take place on October 4 beginning at 10 a.m. with Just Push Play Productions serving as emcee. The giant pumpkins will be on display at the CNY Great Pumpkin Festival Oct. 4 only.

Official sponsors for the festival include Pathfinder Bank, National Grid, Exelon, Custom Marketing Solutions, Oswego Health, Oswego County Today, Zink Shirts, I Heart Oswego and the city of Oswego.
