Sarah Finocchiaro, MD

Fulton native and recent graduate of Upstate Medical Center Sarah Finocchiaro, MD, joined the active medical staff of Oswego Hospital and the practice of Pediatrician Stuart Trust, MD, on July 15.

Dr. Finocchiaro said she never thought of practicing anywhere but in her hometown. “Honestly, this is where I have always wanted to be, as my family is here,” she said. At the same time, Dr. Trust is glad to have the opportunity of a recent medical school graduate who has received numerous accolades, join him at his Fulton office.

Dr. Finocchiaro said she has known since she was a third grade student at the former Fulton Catholic School that she wanted to be a physician. “I made this decision at the age of eight and my mother still has the essay at home,” Dr. Finocchiaro said. “When I get my mind set on something, I do it.”

Dr. Trust said that with a second physician in his practice, he will offer later hours on Monday through Thursday nights. “I also expect that Dr. Finocchiaro will offer adolescent counseling and gynecological services to young females. In both these areas there is an enormous shortage of trained professionals. I think Sarah will fill a need in the community.”

Dr. Finocchiaro graduated from Upstate Medical University on June 30th. She attended Upstate from 2003 to 2007, and continued her training at the Syracuse medical school from 2007 to 2010 to earn a specialty in pediatrics.

She earned her undergraduate degree from LeMoyne College. She is the daughter of John and Betty Finocchiaro, a retired registered nurse at A.L. Lee Memorial Hospital. Dr. Finocchiaro, and her husband, John, reside in the Fulton community.

While at Upstate, Dr. Finocchiaro received numerous honors including excellence as a teacher, humanism and excellence in teaching, and the Leonard Marmor Award that is presented to two students pursuing careers in pediatrics.

In her spare time, Dr. Finocchiaro enjoys going to the gym, reading and writing.
