PHOENIX — A series of professional development programs for women at the SUNY Oswego Phoenix Center became the focus of the State University of New York as the SUNY Leadership Institute was planning its annual Leadership Tools for Women conference. As a result, the Phoenix Center will co-sponsor this year’s conference June 21.
Titled “Centricity: It’s All About You,” the conference will be held at Dutchess Community College.
The Women’s Empowerment Series at the Phoenix Center consists of quarterly mini retreats designed exclusively for women pursuing balance and fulfillment in navigating their personal and professional lives. It emphasizes the importance of self-care as a basis for being better equipped to positively lead, influence and support others.
When Lee Riddell, the SUNY chancellor’s liaison for presidential searches as well as the director of the SUNY Leadership Institute, began the planning process for this year’s conference after identifying the focus of helping women “do more with less,” she came across the Phoenix Center’s quarterly program. Riddell said the program “was a natural fit” and asked the SUNY Oswego Phoenix Center to co-sponsor the conference.
The keynote speaker for the Conference is Carla Goldstein, the chief external affairs officer and co-founder of the Omega Women’s Leadership Center. Goldstein will deliver “The Art of Seeking Balance: Mapping Your Own Voyage,” during which she will speak on the importance of developing a regular practice of self-reflection as a tool for living with a greater sense of meaning, inspiration, purpose and joy.
Riddell calls it a “fabulous beginning” to the program.
“With more women advancing into highly visible leadership positions, it was time to focus on how to remain sane while being a super woman — by examining our priorities, determining which ones are most important in this stage of our life and letting go of those that are not,” Riddell said.
This is the institute’s ninth annual conference and the first one in which SUNY Oswego is involved.
“We were honored that the SUNY Leadership Institute recognized the relevance of our program for women today,” SUNY Oswego Phoenix Center Contract Manager Tammy Anderson said. “We’ve done significant work in creating this Women’s Empowerment Series to support women with personal growth, leadership skills and developing a work/life harmony. We’re thrilled with the opportunity to be able to share these concepts and skills with women from across New York state.”
“Centricity: It’s All About You” will take place from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. June 21 at Dutchess Community College in Poughkeepsie and is open to all women.
The cost to attend is $125 and includes breakfast, lunch and a networking reception.
