With the planning for the fourth annual Playing for Poverty event well under way, 3 bands have been confirmed. The event will take place on August 6th, 2011 from 12:00-7:00 PM at the Fulton War Memorial ice rink and feature “Beatles” tribute band “Magical Mystery Tour”, local musician Bill Oeinck, and local youth band “Eliza”, in addition to two more acts.
The event, which raises money and collects canned goods for local food pantries, is an opportunity for families to spend the day enjoying some free entertainment and learn about community service agencies that are present the day of the event.
Last year’s event raised $1500.00 to donate to the Foodbank of CNY as well as Non-perishable food items that were dispersed to pantries around the county. According to Heather Sturges of the Playing for Poverty Committee, the $1500.00 donation translates to roughly 3816 meals for area families. “This is a great, family friendly event, which shines a light on an issue that affects a great number of families in our community”, says Sturges.
