Long Term Care Advocates Needed

Syracuse, NY – Catholic Charities of Onondaga County is seeking volunteer Long Term Care Advocates for their Onondaga/Oswego County Ombudsman Program. There are over 5000 older adults currently living in long-term care facilities in Onondaga and Oswego Counties. Many of those frail adults do not have any family support, and require advocates to assure they receive quality care and continue to be recognized as individuals.

The Onondaga/Oswego County Ombudsman Program is mandated by both the federal and state government to provide advocacy to this frail population. Ombudsmen investigate, mediate, and resolve issues pertaining to the elderly living in long-term care.

If you care about both Onondaga and Oswego County’s senior population and would like to make a difference in your community by providing 2 to 4 hours of service per week, call Toni Buckley, Onondaga Coordinator, at 315-424-1810 ext 13, or Carolyn Schloss, Oswego Coordinator, 315-350-9969, for an interview.

The Onondaga/Oswego County Ombudsman Program, sponsored by Catholic Charities of Onondaga County, provides the 36 hour training and supervision. Bring your desire to serve, the skills you’ve developed throughout your life, and join us for an experience that will improve the quality of life for older adults. Upon successful completion of the Ombudsman Training program, volunteers are certified by the State of New York as a Long Term Care Ombudsman.

Training will be Spring 2011.
